Women’s mental health is closely linked to hormonal changes – whether throughout the menstrual cycle, during pregnancy, in the postpartum period, or around menopause. Many psychological symptoms first appear or significantly worsen during these phases. Unfortunately, such symptoms are often underestimated, misunderstood, or stigmatized.
I have developed a specific focus in this field – known as reproductive psychiatry – and have pursued additional training and extensive clinical experience in supporting women during hormonally sensitive life stages. My aim is to offer professional, individualized, and compassionate care.
Key areas of my work include:
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)
Mood swings related to ovulation or menstruation
Depression and anxiety during pregnancy (antenatal)
Postpartum depression and other postpartum crises
Emotional distress following miscarriage or stillbirth
Psychological changes during perimenopause and menopause
Neurobiological effects of hormonal contraception or hormone replacement therapy
A particular emphasis is placed on the careful use of psychiatric medication during these periods: Whether during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or in the hormonal transition around menopause, the benefits and risks of psychopharmacological treatment must be carefully considered. I will support you in making evidence-based decisions that also take into account your personal needs and life circumstances – if necessary, in close cooperation with your gynecologist or midwife.
My goal is to provide you with respectful, honest, and clinically sound support – so that you can maintain and strengthen your mental health, even in hormonally challenging times.
